You have found a treasured spot, nestled in the foothills of Glendale, a truly European bakery. At Berolina you will find freshly baked Artisan breads, a wide assortment of danish and croissants, traditional European cakes and pastries and a unique lunch menu. Familiar to the international palate and a delightful discovery for the evolving appetite, the menu at Berolina is certain to please those who seek the finest culinary experience.

Owned and operated by a local European couple since 1991, Berolina boasts traditional favorites as well as signature specialties.

Meet The Owners

Born and raised in Stockholm, Sweden, Anders Karlsson learned the art of baking the staples of daily European life - breads, pastries and croissants. Once mastered, he took his talent to America, adapting beloved Swedish recipes for an American audience.
Youna Karlsson grew up in Antwerp, Belgium, learning the ins-and-outs of retail by working under the tutelage of her parents in a family-owned business. She moved to the United States during the late 1980s. Berolina Bakery

The couple met and married, and after a short stay in Youna's hometown in Belgium, they moved back to Sweden where Anders taught Youna the art of baking danish and fine pastries. They traveled to many European and American cities, visiting bakeries and restaurants, attending baking shows and classes in decorating techniques to further their knowledge in the field of baking.

They returned to California, and in 1990 purchased a small, struggling bakery named Berolina.

16 years later, Berolina is a thriving member of the local community. With Anders overseeing the nightshift bakers and Youna coordinating the day shift, Berolina is able to meet the demands of a clientele that have come to expect the highest quality baked goods from their friendly local European bakery.

Each loaf is created by bakers who are experts in molding technique, artistic shaping and scoring. Their mastery gives each loaf of bread its unique and irregular shape, a distinct signature only to Berolina Bakery. Professionally trained in mixing, fermenting, shaping and baking, Berolina bakers work every night while their customers sleep, busy creating a fresh supply of bread for the new day.

From the well-known olive Kalamata and walnut breads to the popular black forest and other specialty breads, Berolina prepares a wide selection to meet the varied tastes of their customers.

Our large selection of mouthwatering danishes, muffins and croissants are made fresh every morning. Begin your day with a fresh baked croissant prepared in traditional French style.

Each flaky croissant is handmade using real butter and ultrathin layers of dough. Our chocolate croissants are filled with premium dark Belgian chocolate. You may also select an almond croissant filled with almond paste and topped with toasted slivered almonds or a breakfast croissant filled with black forest ham and real Swiss cheese. Our amazing sticky buns are laden with buttery walnuts and swirled through with cinnamon and honey. The tempting allure or our signature cinnamon morning rolls or apricot wreaths will satisfy any early morning craving. Berolina's cakes are hand crafted and filled with our own homemade mousses, custards, or real whipped cream: created to look as good as they taste.

We also sell them in individual portions. You will also find mouthwatering fresh fruit tarts filled with real vanilla custard, and topped with strawberries, raspberries, and assorted tropical fruit or tarts with fresh pear baked in French almond creme.

This successful full-line bakery and café only uses the finest ingredients to produce a freshly baked culinary delight according to the bride's individual desires. With fourteen
years of experience, including several years in Belgium and Sweden, Youna designs custom handcrafted artwork while incorporating your ideas and themes.

Lunch Menu

Be whisked away on a culinary journey by stepping int0 Berolina’s for lunch. Our popular Greek salad, made with feta cheese, Kalamata olives, spring medley, tomato, cucumber, red onion, bell pepper and a subtle balsamic vinaigrette, is a wonderful diversion from the mundane. Our renowned soups are made daily. Cream of mushroom, Swedish-style split pea with ham, and bell pepper soup are just three of the unique delicacies prepared - each day a different soup is featured, so plan to call ahead. Quiches make for a wonderful lunch, and we offer a wide variety from which to choose. Our quiche menu is determined on the freshest ingredients available to guarantee an unforgettable meal. Finally, we offer a broad selection of sandwiches - mouthwatering paninis and cold sandwiches with an abundance of cheeses, meats and fresh vegetables prepared on any of our delicious breads.
