Pearlie Whites

At Pearlie Whites, my goal is to do a thorough, yet gentle cleaning of your animal companion's teeth in a stress-free environment while maintaining strict OSHA compliant infection control standards. My motto is service with gentleness, kindness, and respect.
I am joyously performing this service due to my great love of animals. I can uniquely give them the same high quality service that my human patients have enjoyed all these years. I want your companion animal to feel safe, comfortable, and relaxed, and pampered. Our animal companions give so much unconditional love to us all the time while asking very little in return. It gives me great joy to be able to serve them.
To that end, I comfortably and safely restrains the patient, and I gently clean the teeth thoroughly. I provide the same quality of OSHA compliant infection control that I apply to people.

Effective Combining of Modalities
To be the most effective in non-anesthesia teeth-cleaning, I begin by connecting telepathically with your companion animal and explaining who I am and what my intentions are. I ask for your companion's permission and cooperation as I do not believe in using force, threats, or intimidation to coerce your companion animal into letting me clean his teeth. I believe in love, kindness, and respect. I let your companion know I am going to do everything in my power to make this experience as easy and as comfortable as possible. I feel I am uniquely qualified to provide this service as I am able to combine my skills as a dental hygienist, flower essence practitioner and animal communicator.
For your companion animal's comfort, they lie on a plush sheepskin rug which is
covered by a soft cotton sheet. Your companion animal receives a massage while listening to soothing harp music. I use the Mirror of Perfection At Ease Lavender Spray to reduce fear, tension, and aggression. I use aromatherapy essential oils to induce relaxation. I spray Mirror of Perfection Miracle Drops on their gums before cleaning and scaling to eliminate any discomfort from cleaning/scaling under the gums. After the scaling is complete, a grapefruit seed extract solution is sprayed on the teeth and gums. Grapefruit seed has natural anti-bacterial, anti-viral, and anti-fungal properties. These therapies are completely non-toxic and can be used by tiny dogs and cats.
Professional Hygiene
Most animal guardians have tremendous resistance to putting their animal companions under anesthesia for dental procedures. Subsequently, the animal guardians puts it off, or does not do it all, especially as the animal companion gets older, when it is increasingly more important for the animal companion's overall health and welfare. The direct correlation between periodontal disease and heart disease is well-documented.
Now you have an alternative to anesthesia teeth cleaning--a dental hygienist dedicated to providing the best possible service with minimal stress to the patient. You get a dental hygienist with 30 years experience.
Services Offered
- Non-anesthesia teeth scaling and polishing
- Patient education and home-care instruction
OSHA Infection Control and Compliance
- OSHA compliant infection control standards
- All instruments are sterilized and never reused
- Gloves are worn and changed between each patient
- Disposable instruments are used to polish teeth
- Clean towels for every patient
- Cat restraint bags are laundered between each use
Instrumentation
Complete instrument setup includes appropriately-sized instruments for the very small dog or cat up through the giant-breed dog. To ensure I have just the right instruments for all the different sizes and shapes of teeth, I have complete sets of mini and micro scalers in addition to regular scalers to clean even the smallest of teeth. Even giant dogs have tiny front teeth that can collect tartar under the gums. With my micro scalers I can slip between the tooth and the gum and remove tartar deposits without causing any discomfort to sensitive
gums.

About Dana
I graduated from the University of Louisville School of Dental Hygiene in 1973. I worked in Louisville before moving to Southern California in 1978. I have over 30 years experience working in a variety of dental settings including periodontics, pedodontics, group, private and cosmetic practices. I have worked in offices that specialized in dental phobics and learned how to deal with patients who are frightened. I use these skills along with my flower essences and Animal Spirit Medicine oils to create a pain-free, stress-free experience for your companion.
I was led to work with animals because of my desire not to put my own dog through anesthesia and yet knowing the importance of regular teeth cleanings to ensure his long and healthy life.
I began receiving telepathic messages from animals 20 years ago. I have learned how to send messages to them and I explain what I want to do and ask their permission. I approach your companion with deep respect. I believe this makes all the difference. I explain everything before I do anything.
I have a life long interest in nutrition and health. As an animal lover, I am also very interested in their health issues as well and using natural methods to heal and restore the body. I believe in Hippocrates' credo "Let your medicine be your food and let your food be your medicine". There is tremendous wisdom in that statement.
I became a flower essence practitioner and took the intensive training course taught by the California Flower Essence Society 10 years ago and have a created a line of essences that work very well with both people and animals. For more information on flower essences, how they work and what they can do for you and your loved ones, log onto www.mirrorofperfection.com.
I spent many years searching for the right expression for my passion for healing. I looked at lots of different modalities including crystal healing, herbology, iridology, acupuncture, reiki, color therapy, and nutrition but nothing seemed quite right for me.
I was led to my work with flower essences through my cats about 10 years ago. I had four and they lived in perfect harmony for three years and then two of them began fighting and it became vicious. I took them to see an animal therapist and communicator and she gave them flower essences. I saw an immediate and dramatic behavior change in them.
When the bottle ran out, I got a book on flower essences and literally had a "light bulb" moment. I had been searching for twenty years for the right healing modality that best suited my talents and abilities and when I read that book, a light bulb literally went off in front of me so I wouldn't miss the significance.
Testimonials
Scout
- "I am a skeptic. I had no idea how Dana would be able to clean my dog's teeth without putting her to sleep. My dog overall is calm but scraping with dental tools, no way. Because Scout (my dog) was a rescue, she does not like to be left at the veterinarians office which would mean I would have to stay there while the teeth cleaning was done and make sure I was there when Scout woke up. I prefer anything to upsetting Scout by leaving her at the vet. Dana instructed me on how to help her with Scout to keep her calm. I was amazed, Scout never yelped, growled or tried to bite. She did let us know when she had enough by wiggling too much. Dana worked on Scout's teeth for 1 1/2 hours. Scout even accepted a treat from Dana when it was all over. Scout will not accept treats at the vet. It was such a positive experience for Scout and myself."

- "I took both my dog and cat to Dana for their first ever teeth cleaning. Dana had been my trusted dental hygienist; how lucky I am that she can now do my beloved pets. She did her usual beautiful job; a noticeable difference to their dirty, yellow teeth. I could not have been more delighted and will ALWAYS use Dana! I recommend her to everyone I know."
Sue Barbis, Los Angeles
Cara - "My 2 Pomeranians had a wonderful experience with Dana. She immediately bonded with them and they felt at ease with her. Their teeth looked very clean and their breath was much fresher and I felt better knowing Dana used all natural products. I highly recommend her."

Sweet Pea
- We recently brought our dog, Sweet Pea, to Dana Raphaelle to have her teeth cleaned. We were hopeful but still hesitant because Sweet Pea is a wonderful, loving pit-bull who has multiple special needs. When we adopted her from a local rescue group we were told that she had been rescued from a collector who had chained her out of doors on a cement foundation for two years. While with that collector she suffered an allergic reaction to a drug, went into a coma, and emerged with significant neurological damage. As a result of that allergic reaction and the neglect she endured she is completely deaf as well as visually impaired. She has irreparable neurological damage that causes seizures and makes it seriously unadvisable to put her under anesthesia. She also has a form of incontinence that arises from being unable to distinguish between "indoors" and "outdoors." She is a gentle dog but she does not generally enjoy being held in one position for very long. Sweet Pea's preference is to run, literally, laps around the yard unimpeded. The feeling of being held still seems to unnerve her. But before you get to feeling too sorry for her please know that she is a very active, happy dog who enjoys playing with her two dog buddies. She gets a lot out of each and every day that she is here running and bouncing about in the sun.
As committed as we are to Sweet Pea's right to live a happy life despite her differences we were becoming very worried about the condition of her teeth. Being a special dog she does not enact typical "doggie" behaviors. For instance she won't chew on teeth cleansing dog biscuits or Nylabones. As we have been medically advised not to put her under anesthetic except in the direst of life-saving circumstances we have not been able to have her teeth cleaned using the traditional veterinary approach. The sum result of these circumstances is that Sweet Pea's teeth were terrible!!! She had unbelievable tartar build up with red puffy gums.
Needless to say, when I saw Dana's ad in the Pet Press I was excited. The idea that Sweet Pea might get some help and relief with her dental problem seemed almost too good to be true. We made an appointment and Dana worked with us to fit into our time and travel considerations. When our original plans for the appointment changed, due to no fault of Dana's, she invited us into her home in order to keep Sweet Pea's appointment.
When we arrived she was wearing scrubs. All of her instruments were cleaned and well organized and she wore rubber gloves, which she changed many times throughout the procedure. She had arranged a soft comfortable bed for Sweet Pea and my partner and I were allowed to be with our precious dog, comforting and holding her throughout the entire procedure. In fact, Dana made us part of the team, giving us clear instructions on the best ways to help hold and comfort Sweet Pea in order to make the procedure that much more comfortable for her. Although Sweet Pea generally detests being held in one place for long, under Dana's care she quickly relaxed and was able to lie comfortably for an hour and a half! (The session took an inordinately long time because of the condition of her teeth.)
Dana maintained a professional, friendly and caring attitude the entire time. She was honest and serious about the condition of Sweet Pea's teeth and didn't push Sweet Pea past what she felt her limits were. Dana is clearly a natural empath. She was able not only to keep Sweet Pea calm, but she also was able to kindly reassure and calm me.
After her visit Sweet Pea's teeth looked a zillion times better and much of the redness in her gums has decreased. We could tell that she felt better immediately in that she was all the more eager to eat and play and run with renewed spunk. Now she shows us her beautiful clean smile at every opportunity as if to say "thanks for making my teeth feel so much better!" We are very grateful to Dana and plan on using her services forever.
